Barbara Corcoran is an American business women, investor, and TV personality. She is well known for her role as an investor on the ABC series Shark Tank. She graduated college in 1971 with a degree in education from St. Thomas Aquinas College. She taught for only a year then decided to focus on renting apartments in New York City. This led to her co-founding her own real estate business, The Corcoran Group, with her boyfriend. Her knowledge in real estate grew as she later would begin publishing reports on market and housing trends. Eventually she sold the business to NRT incorporated for an estimated $66 million. Currently she is one of the investors on Shark Tank. On the show she has invested in over 20 business to date.

Some of her favorite hobbies include spending time at the beach and going skiing. She also seems to enjoy her time on Shark Tank making deals.
She used to be Republican but has since switched to the Democratic party. She has made her largest political donations to the Democratic party, when Barack Obama was running for office in 2008. She is also a supporter of the LGBT community, and was the main speaker at a recent Gay and Lesbian Commerce meeting. She is a strong believer in equal pay for equal work and loves to help other women become more financially independent.
Barbara is currently married to her second husband, Bill Higgins. Together they have two children and live in Manhattan. Her youngest daughter was adopted, and has an older son.
She started her first business, The Corcoran Group, with a small $1,000 loan. She was able to turn that money into a business that is worth 5 billion dollars.
Barbara admits that she wasn’t a straight A student in school, but that didn’t stop her. She pursued her passion in business and become extremely successful.
