David Tennant is a Scottish actor. Born in Bathgate, Scotland on April 18, 1971, he rose to prominence in the public eye when he was cast in the role of the Tenth Doctor in Doctor Who. Tennant played the Time Lord through five seasons (2005-2010) and in a special episode where he played opposite the Eleventh Doctor. David went on to star in the well-received detective series Broadchurch, and as the Purple Man in Netflix’s Jessica Jones show.

His birth name is David John McDonald. David had to use a different last name when he joined the actors union, as there was already a David McDonald in it. He decided that since he liked the Pet Shop Boys, David chose the last name of the frontman of the group, Neil Tennant. (1)

    David’s zodiac sign is Aries.

    David Tennant – His Religion

Tennant keeps a lot of his personal thoughts and beliefs close to his chest. When asked by a member of the press once, he did give a little insight into his moral code.

“There’s a morality… I think there’s a moral compass but whether that comes from religion or just from being a good person, and where one starts and the other begins,” David said, before trailing his thoughts off. (2)

It also should be noted that David’s father was a minister of the Church of Scotland. We would guess that David may still have Presbyterian beliefs, and perhaps believe in God, but in a more casual manner than someone who regularly attends church.

    David Tennant – His Politics

During the United Kingdon’s Brexit referendum, Tennant said that he was in favor of the U.K. remaining a part of the European Union. After the results came in and the majority of U.K. residents favored leaving the Union, Tennant expressed his disappointment.

As a result of the Brexit result, Tennant is in favor of Scotland becoming a fully independent nation. “I’m now at the point where I think if Scotland goes again for a referendum, they should go independent,” he said. (3)

In years past Tennant has given his support to the Labour Party. He also voted for Prime Minister Gordon Brown in the 2010 election. (4)

    David Tennant – His Relationships

David married Georgia Moffat, an actress, in 2011. Together the husband and wife have four children: daughter Olive (born 2011); son Wilfred (2003); daughter Doris (2015); and a son named Ty, who was from an earlier relationship that Moffat had. Tennant has since officially adopted Ty as his own child.

Rather interestingly, Georgia Moffat is the daughter of Peter Davison, the actor who portrayed the Fifth Doctor in Doctor Who. David has been a lifelong fan of Doctor Who since a child, and he knows very well how strange it is that not only did he get to play his childhood dream role, but that he wound up marrying the daughter of a former Time Lord.
