Dev Patel is an English actor. His acting career got started with a role in the TV series Skins (2007-2008). What made this impressive is that he had no prior acting experience or even took any classes. His next big success was playing the role of Jamal Malik in the movie Slumdog Millionaire. He received several nominations for this role. He won the Bafta Award for Best Supporting Actor in 2016 for playing Saroo Brierley in Lion (2016). He has also been nominated for additional awards for that role.
Even though Dev regards himself as non political, he has been known to speak on political issues. One such political matter Petal spoke on was President Donald Trump’s travel ban in January 2017. In an interview with CNN, Patel expressed how Trumps “divisive nature” is terrifying to him. Such a problem hits home for Patel as his parents are immigrants.
He has been practicing taekwondo for over 8 years. Dev also admits that he is a big sucker for romance. He’s not a big fan of social media and doesn’t have a Facebook or Twitter.
He was raised in the Hindu faith. In a 2010 interview, Patel mentions, “Growing up, religion . . . [was] never [an] issue for me. I’d regularly attend Hindu temple, but the faith was never forced on me”. It is unclear whether Patel actively practices the Hindu religion today.
Currently it appears that Dev Patel is single. In 2008 he started dating his costar Freida Pinto. They dated for six years until mutually breaking up in 2014. It appears that he is more focused on acting now.
He had to do a lot of preparation for his role in Lion (2016). He had to grow out a beard and picked up an Australian accent. It took him over 8 months to fully prepare for this role. He says that he is super tone deaf and is a terrible singer. Fortunately for him he’s a lot better at acting. Dev also says he is close with his family and visits India as much as he can.
