Donald Glover is an American actor, writer, rapper and television producer. Glover starred in five seasons of NBC’s Community before departing the show after 89 episodes. He’s also known by his music stage name Childish Gambino where he sings original rap songs. Currently Donald can be seen on the FX series Atlanta playing a man trying to make a living in the music industry.
Glover was born on September 25, 1983, making him a Libra. His middle name is McKinley, and he was born at Edwards Air Force Base.
Donald was brought up as a Jehovah’s Witness, but it doesn’t appear that he is one today. When asked a direct question if he believed in a Heaven and Hell, Donald dodged the question by answering, “I believe in a good sleep. I really do.” (1)
Later in the same interview he goes back to his religious upbringing. “I was always the odd one out, and Jehovah’s Witnesses don’t celebrate Christmas, you don’t say the Pledge of Allegiance, and when you have Jewish kids in the class who don’t celebrate Christmas everyone understands, but when you say you’re a Jehovah’s Witness they say, ‘So… You come to my door at 9 a.m. and wake my family up? I don’t understand any of your rules,'” he remarked.
“As a kid growing up in the South, people didn’t know what it was. It gave me a very different perception of what religion is because in the South, everyone is Southern Baptist. Jehovah’s Witnesses are Christian, but it felt small and almost cult-like in Atlanta.”
In the ’00s Glover showed support for Democratic candidates. Glover has also been critical of the Republican party but has chosen to soften his words by wrapping them in a joke or sarcastic quip.
When Donald Glover accepted his 2017 Emmy award, he joked, “I want to thank Trump for making black people number one on the most oppressed list. He’s the reason I’m probably up here.” (3)
At a Television Critics Association press event, when asked about TV shows coming to an end: “I think everything should have death clauses in them. Like, humans have death clauses. Like, thank God, one day, Trump is going to die.”
Glover quickly followed up with a tongue-in-cheek zinger, “Yeah, I’m a big Trump supporter. I was at the RNC waving my flag.”
Sounds like he’s not so much a fan of today’s Republicans.
Glover tries to downplay his celebrity status and keep news from his personal life on the down low. For example, Donald has had a longtime relationship with a woman named Michelle but no one knows what her last name, or her occupation is.
Further illustrating Donald’s reluctance to issue public statements about his personal life, his fanbase only learned that the star had become a father to a baby boy named Legend when he mentioned it during his acceptance speech at the 2017 Golden Globes. A second boy was born in January 2018. (2)
Donald has a brother named Stephen who is a writer on Atlanta.
