Finn Jones is an English actor bets known for playing the character Ser Loras Tyrell in the television series Game of Thrones, and Danny Rand, a.k.a. Iron Fist, in the Netflix series of the same name. Jones studied acting for three years at Arts Educational Schools in London. His first professional role was Jaime, a man in love with the character Hannah Ashwort, in five episodes of the second season of the television series Hollyoaks.
He was born as Terence Jones and uses Terry as his nickname. Because there is already a well-known British personality by the name of Terry Jones (who is a member of Monty Python), the actor chose to use the stage name of Finn Jones.
Born on March 24, 1988 in London, England, Jones’ birth sign is Aries.
Jones keeps his personal views out of the public spotlight. That said, one dust-up made him briefly leave social media just before the premiere of his Netflix show Iron Fist.
In March 2017 Jones answered a criticism leveled about the character he was portraying on Iron Fist, a white martial arts superhero named Danny Rand. In the Marvel comic books Danny is a white American who learns mystical martial arts from east Asia. The critic on Twitter who engaged Jones asked why the character of Danny shouldn’t be played by an Asian actor in the show.
“Please don’t make assumptions on our show before you have seen it. the characterization of . . . Danny Rand may have remained true to its source material but our show incorporates and celebrates actors from . . . all different backgrounds. I will go as far to say that it may be one of the most diverse shows out of the three [current Marvel-Netflix shows],” Finn Jones said.
The Twitter conversation drew attention and involvement from many others. Eventually Jones decided to delete his tweets and leave the conversation citing that he wanted to focus on his work (he was then filming episodes of The Defenders). (1)
On a different politically charged subject, in the February 2013 issue of Gay Times magazine, Jones commented on playing a homosexual character in Game of Thrones: “In terms of the gay community, I’ve got a very strong reaction that people are happy with it, happy that gay characters are being portrayed but not in a sensationalized or stereotyped way, and they’re being put into a world that is a very masculine, hard world. I hope that they think that we’re not stereotyping them.” (2)
He was also critical of Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott’s stance on not recognizing marriage for homosexual couples. “It was legal, and then it wasn’t, I mean, what is his problem?…Does he have women’s issues? Men’s issues? All people have a right to love.” (3)
Although he does not speak too much about religion,it’s rumored that he is a Roman Catholic.
On his Twitter profile, Finn describes himself as an actor and music lover. But he doesn’t just love music, he makes it too! In addition to being part of a London-based collective called Human Effort, he’s also a DJ himself.
