Harrison Ford is one of the best-known American actors of his generation. Ford has starred in motion pictures that have grossed nearly $5 billion dollars worldwide. His most famous roles were in four Star Wars movies playing as smuggler-turned-rebel Han Solo; the Indiana Jones movie franchise as the titlular adventurer; futuristic detective Rick Deckard in two Blade Runner movies; and in other well-received pictures like Witness, Patriot Games, Air Force One, The Fugitive, Apocalypse Now and American Graffiti.
Harrison Ford was born on July 13, 1942 in Chicago, Illnois. His star sign is Cancer.
Ford is a Democrat known for mostly keeping quiet about his politics. When he’s asked how he feels about the subject he then will open up.
Such as this time when Harrison was asked about upbringing in Illinois with his brother: “We were given Democrat instruction; to be liberals of every stripe. I don’t judge what other people do. At least I try not to ever judge what other people do unless they do it in my face.” (1)
When asked if he ever had an interest to leverage his fame for a run in politics, Ford answered “I’ve never been that interested in politics. Contrary to mythology I’ve never been a backdoor visitor to the White House. It’s too big a job. With politics there’s always an agenda and I don’t think that way. I’ll support someone but I don’t want to meet them.” (1)
Even with his reticent attitude about talking politics, Ford has said enough to not be labeled a fan of President Donald Trump.
When he was confronted with the news that Trump’s favorite Harrison Ford movie was Air Force One, the 1997 action film where Ford played as the President battling terrorists on the presidental plane, Harrison quipped, “”Donald, it was a movie. It’s not like this in real life, but how would you know?”
Ford has maintained that the closest he comes to practicing a religion is environmentalism. “I needed something outside of myself to believe in and I found in nature a kind of God,” the actor was quoted as once saying on camera. (2)
He has also been an advocate for pushing politicians to be more environmentally responsible including the current Trump administration. “We face an unprecedented moment in this country,” he said in 2017 while receiving an award for his stewardship with environmental issues. “Today’s greatest threat is not climate change, not pollution, not flood or fire. It’s that we’ve got people in charge of important sh– who don’t believe in science.” (3)
“Irish as a person and Jewish as an actor,” is what Harrison has said when asked about his nationality. (4)
Ford’s father came from German-Irish roots while his mother was a Russian Jew from Minsk.
The actor has been married three times in his life. Ford’s first marriage was with Mary Marquardt, and it lasted from 1964 to 1979. The couple had two boys together.
His second marriage was with screenwriter Melissa Mathison, which began in 1983 and lasted until 2004. They had a son and a daughter.
Ford then married actress Calista Flockhart in 2010. The couple have one child, a boy named Liam.
All together, Harrison Ford is the father of five children.
