Howie Mandel

Howie Mandel is a Canadian comedian, TV host, judge, and voice actor. He is best known for his role as the host of Deal or No Deal (2005-2009) and as a judge for America’s Got Talent (2010-). The comedian first got attention by playing a doctor in 1982’s St. Elsewhere. Following, he had some roles in a few movies, such as Gremlins (1984) and its sequel, and soon started doing some voice work, like in his own Bobby’s World (1990-1998). He’s also known for his stand-up routine, where he used to do one particular stunt, where he would stretch a latex glove over his head and inflate it with his nostrils, until it propelled off his head. Unfortunately he eventually would have to stop doing such a trick, because of a perfurated sinus. Almost 30 years after starting his career, he finally landed the job for which he’d get most recognition, the already mentioned Deal or No Deal.

In 1980 Mandel married Terry Soil, whom he met while still in high school. The couple is together after over three decades and have had three kids together, Jackie, Riley and Alex, and have also adopted two of his nephews, Austin and Zack Mandel.

The presenter has mysophobia, an uncontrollable fear of germs. The condition makes him unable to shake anyone’s hands, even contestants in the show Deal or No Deal. It’s also caused a few incidents during his work, including one time where a magician in America’s Got Talent dropped a used dental floss close to him, making him immediately run away from his seat.
