James Corden is an English television show host, comedian and actor. He currently hosts The Late, Late Show with James Corden on CBS. Corden’s show business career began on British sitcoms in the early 2000s before co-creating his own show, Gavin & Stacey, which was a hit. One-off appearances in Doctor Who, Britain’s Got Talent and Sports Relief followed, along with several not-well received roles in films. In 2015 he took over The Late Show from Craig Ferguson and swiftly found pop culture success. Corden’s Carpool Karaoke and Mic Drop segments quickly became viral hits online.
Born on August 22, 1978 in the suburb of Hillingdon, London, England, Corden’s middle name is Kimberley. His zodiac symbol is Leo.
James’ parents brought their children up in the Protestant Salvation Army church. However, he doesn’t consider himself a Christian today and is skeptical but open to there being a greater purpose to life. “When you ask me what are my beliefs I really struggle because you can’t argue with science, only a mad man would,” he said. “Lots of people don’t even recognize it as a church, they just see it as a charity and the work it does and all those things are great,” James once explained about the Salvation Army church. “There are some wonderful people who are involved in the Salvation Army…
“Looking back… I can only describe it as some of the least Christian people I’ve ever met. If anything, I didn’t want people to come and join this church, they would have been happier if the doors were shut.” (1)
As the host of a late night talk show, Corden needs to walk a fine line. He needs to poke fun at the day’s news while also appearing to not take a side. That said, he personally leans left.
Corden has also produced segments critical of President Trump’s policies.
After the 2018 Parkland School shooting James opened his show with this editorial supporting gun control in America. “I may not be American, but I have children that are American and they go to school here.”
“It’s important to remember however disenfranchised you might feel or however disconnected you might feel from each other, the truth is that the majority of this country didn’t vote for Donald Trump to be our president,” he says. “The majority of this country wants greater restrictions on guns. The majority of this country does want America to be a place of hope and joy and love. I really do believe that is the majority of people. I think you’ve always got to remember that. However much your Twitter feed might tell you differently, if you look around there are little patches of miracles happening everywhere.” (2)
James is married to Julia Carey. The couple were introduced by actor Dominic Cooper, who roomed with Corden for a number of years.
James and Julia have three children: son Max (born March 2011), daughter Carey (October 2014) and daughter Charlotte (born December 2017).
James has an older sister named Andrea and a younger one named Ruth.
