Jeff Goldblum is an American actor who first found mainstream success in movies back in the 1980s. He’s continually worked ever since and has starred in several of the biggest feature films of all-time. Some of his most memorable performances were as chaos mathematician Dr. Ian Malcolm in the first two Jurassic Park movies, Ththe 1996 sci-fi action film Independence Day (and its 2016 sequel), The Fly (1986), The Big Chill (1983), The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou (2004) and Thor: Ragnarok (2017).
Born on October 22, 1952 in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, his middle name is Lynn, and his full first name is Jeffrey. His zodiac sign is Libra.
Goldblum was raised in a Jewish household and attended synagogue when he was growing up. However, he is presently an atheist. “I have no faith in an afterlife and you never know when it’s gonna end,” he was quoted as saying. (1)
He is a Democrat.
In the run-up to the 2016 United States presidential election, Goldblum wasn’t a fan of then-candidate Donald Trump: “I hope he finds his niche in some kind of entertainment salesman bombast corner of the culture and stays away from anything in the leadership position. I hope with all my heart.”
When Clinton lost the campaign to Trump, Goldblum waxed philosophically about his thoughts:
“In the course of this, I was so excited about a woman being President, I went and looked at that movie Norma Rae again. It’s about a woman who finds her power. You know the music that comes at the beginning and the end of that movie, I’m going to sing a little snippet of it: ‘It goes and it goes how the river flows / And time it rolls right on / And maybe what’s good gets a little bit better / And maybe what’s bad gets gone.’ I like that.” (2)
The Goldberg family’s heritage is Jewish, with Jeff’s parents immigrants from Russia and Austria.
Jeff mother Shirley worked different jobs, at times in a radio station as a broadcaster, and later as the manager of an appliances company. Father Harold was a doctor. (2)
He has three siblings: an older brother named Lee, and a younger sister named Pamela. His other older brother Rick died of kidney failure at the age of 23.
Goldblum has been married three times. His first marriage lasted seven years, from 1980 to 1986, and was with actress Patricia Gaul. In 1987 he married Geena Davis, his co-star in The Fly. They divorced in 1990. In 2014 Goldblum married Canadian Olympic gymnast Emilie Livingston. So far the couple are parents to two boys, Charlie (born 2015) and River (born 2017).
Jeff is a skilled jazz pianist. He often plays piano in the different cities that he shoots movies in, usually at the bars of the hotels he stays at. He also performs in a band called The Mildred Snitzer Orchestra.
