Jessica Chastain is an American actress and movie producer born on March 24, 1977 in Sacramento, California. After graduating from the Julliard School of Acting in 2003, Chastain had minor roles on television and built up her resume working in plays. Her breakthrough roll came in 2011 when she played Brad Pitt’s wife in The Tree of Life. In 2013 she was nominated for a Best Actress Oscar for playing a focused CIA analyist who helped locate Osama bin Ladin in Zero Dark Thirty.

Chastain leans a hard left in her politics. She had given her public support to Hillary Clinton in the 2016 election. The actress has also been very vocal about her dislike of President Donald Trump and his presidency.

When asked if she had any political aspirations, Jessica said no. “I went to acting school, c’mon. I’m super passionate but I don’t think actors or reality television stars should ever run for office. (1)

On one matter Chastain has been quiet, and that is her personal religious beliefs. Since she has starred in films that touch upon religious elements (like The Zookeeper’s Wife or Interstellar), Jessica had opportunities to present her thoughts to the press. Surprisingly she hasn’t.

Chastain is an active proponent of pointing out areas of inequality for women and minorities in show business. She is active on social media and in her interviews about wanting to see more women working in all areas of her profession, such as more women directors, writers, cinematographers and so on.

“I’m speaking out as an audience member who is going to the cinema and noticing there’s a problem here because I don’t see women being represented,” Chastain has said. “I don’t see Asian-American actresses begin represented. I don’t see women in their 60s being represented in film.” (2)

In June 2017 Jessica married Gian Luca Passi De Preposulo, an Italian noble with family connections to Armani. He works as the director of public relations for the Moncler brand. The wedding was held in Italy. The couple had been dating for five years before tying the knot. (4)

Jessica was an only child and had a tumultuous childhood. Her parents were both teenagers when they had Jessica, and her father had very little to do with Jessica’s youth. In fact, Jessica uses her mother’s maiden name of Chastain as her stage name.
