John Oliver is a writer, director, comedian, political commentator and television host. He shot to fame for his efforts on the The Daily Show with Jon Stewart in 1996. Since then he has co-hosted the comedy podcast The Bugle and hosted the John Oliver’s New York Stand-Up Show. Currently he is the host of Last Week Tonight with John Oliver and has a role on the TV series Community.
It appears that Oliver is most likely atheist or is quiet about his beliefs. There are suspicions that he is Christian because he attended Christ’s College during his time at Cambridge, but is uncertain if he still holds any of those views. John being private about his beliefs might also have to do with his role as a TV host.
John appears to lean more liberal on political issues. His political stance, at times, can appear muddled as he frequently makes jokes about both US parties. It appears he has more issues with the Republican party, as he is often seen making fun of them more. Part of his job is to appear neutral so this is probably another reason his political views are essentially unknown or unconfirmed.
He got married to Kate Norley in 2011. Kate is a retired US Army veteran who served as a medic in Iraq. Rumor has it that they met at the 2008 Republican National Convention and she helped him hide from security. However, the details of that are rather blurred.
What people may not know about John is that he is actually the nephew of famous composer Stephen Oliver. He is also the great-great grandson to William Boyd Carpenter who served as court chaplain to Queen Victoria of England, and comes from a traditionally prominent family among the clergy.
