Katy Perry Hudson, is an American singer and songwriter and found her passion for singing in church as a girl. As a teen she sang gospel music which caught the attention of Red Hill Records and released her debut studio 2001, which was commercially unsuccessful. After moving to Los Angeles the following year she changed her style and music after Red Hill stopped working with her. She was later signed and dropped by both Island Def Jam Music Group and Columbia records. Finally, she signed a recording contract with Capitol Records in April 2007 and has become one of the highest paid celebrities in the US.
