Kiefer Sutherland is an American actor and director. He is mostly known for his role as federal agent Jack Bauer in the hit series 24. This role landed Sutherland the Emmy for best actor in a drama series. His parents, Donald Sutherland and Shirley Douglas, were both actors, while his grandfather, Tommy Douglas was an important political figure in Saskatchewan as Premier of the region, and founder of the Social Security system of the country. After his parents’ divorce, Sutherland moved with his mother to Toronto, where he went to a Catholic school, and picked up the love for acting which turned him into the professional he is today.
Judging by his upbringing and virgin Mary tattoo, Kiefer is probably Catholic or at least use to be. He was raised in a Catholic household and attended catholic school. However according to a recent interview, it appeared he may have moved away from being Catholic. He stated that “he is a spiritual person”, so it’s unclear as to his exact beliefs.
Sutherland is a Democrat. Considering his role as a terrorist-busting federal agent, you would think Sutherland’s political beliefs lean to the right of the spectrum. However, you would be wrong. In an interview, Sutherland expressed his firm beliefs in social responsibility, and full support for Obama’s office as well as favor for gun control laws. We are sorry for conservatives, but it seems Agent Bauer is a stout leftist.
When not working in a film set, or directing a movie, Sutherland is passionate about Chess. He says it’s his favorite hobby. He also enjoys video games and apparently is a fan of Metal Gear Solid.
Sutherland was engaged to Julia Roberts. Three days before the couple got married, Roberts broke it off with Sutherland and left with his then-friend, Jason Patric. Currently, Kiefer Sutherland seems to be hitting it off with the long-time actress Demi Moore.
As a curious tidbit, Kiefer is close friends with Hockey Legend Wayne Gretzky, and regularly practices the sport in a celebrity team. Sutherland is also a rodeo enthusiast, having traveled with the Rodeo Circuit in the late 90’s, and winning events in Phoenix and Albuquerque.
