Mike Rowe is an American television host, best-known for providing the narration for the Discovery Channel shows Dirty Jobs and Deadliest Catch. Starting off as an on-air host for the shopping channel QVC, Rowe worked his way through odd TV jobs before his narration gigs on Discovery Channel started building him a solid fanbase. Prior to working in the TV industry Rowe worked at a Baltimore television station and also performed singing, both as a member of the Baltimore Opera and in barbershop singing groups.
Born on March 18, 1962 in Baltimore, Maryland, his zodiac sign is Pisces. Rowe’s middle name is Gregory.
Raised in a Presbyterian home, Rowe has said that while growing up in Baltimore God and religion were “always around the edges.” (1)
Tolerance of other beliefs and religions plays a major part in Mike Rowe’s life. Now that he has some clout in the production of his TV shows Rowe includes the faith of the subjects in the shows.
“When I started making TV, I realized that a lot of the places where I went, people’s faith and people’s church … occupied the same kind of real estate, but when I saw the finished versions of other shows, those things were always cut out,” Rowe said. (1)
He loves reading pulp fiction, running, and writing. Oddly enough he says he likes to write about himself in third person. He also loves working as a TV Host on Dirty Jobs.
Mike is a Republican.
On one of his online encounters with a critic he said, “I’m not a registered Republican, but from time to time, I have voted like one.” (2)
He is conservative religiously and politically, even though at times he isn’t happy with the direction of the Republican party.
Additionally, Rowe has said, “Unless you wish to alienate a majority of the country, you might consider something a tad more conciliatory. Something like – ‘There is no ‘R’ in Jesus – But There’s G-O-P in Gospel!’” (3)
Mike Rowe has never been married. His lovelife has been the source of speculation; magazines connected him romantically to Danielle Burgio, a stuntwoman who once doubled for actress Carrie-Anne Moss in The Matrix films. However, Burgio remains married to her husband.
In 2019 there was speculation that Mike was seeing Sandy Dotson, a data management executive. But since Mike doesn’t address questions about his personal life this will continue to be just speculation.
Rowe founded the Mike Rowe Works Foundation that helps people get trained for jobs that are in high demand. He doesn’t believe that getting a degree is the only way to get a decent job.
He has been in a lot of commercials. In fact, Mike’s lent his voice to over a dozen commercials for Tylenol.
