She is well known for roles in movies like, The Help, The Divergent Series, and Hidden Figures. In 2011, she won several awards for her role in the movie The Help. This included her first Academy Award, Golden Globe, and Critics Choice Award. In 2017 she received several more nominations for role as Dorothy Vaughan in Hidden Figures. As an author she has published several books such as The Sweetest Heist in History (2015) and The Case of the Time-Capsule Bandit (2013).
