Octavia Spencer is an American actress and author. She is well known for roles in movies like, The Help, The Divergent Series, and Hidden Figures. In 2011, she won several awards for her role in the movie The Help. This included her first Academy Award, Golden Globe, and Critics Choice Award. In 2017 she received several more nominations for role as Dorothy Vaughan in Hidden Figures. As an author she has published several books such as The Sweetest Heist in History (2015) and The Case of the Time-Capsule Bandit (2013).
Octavia was raised Catholic, and still remains today. Her mother, Annick Beau, was of French descent and was Catholic. Isabelle’s father, Raymond Huppert, was from a Jewish family. He had to hide his background during World War II.
She isn’t too outspoken on her beliefs but is a huge supporter of Barrack Obama and is a liberal Democrat. When he got elected as President, she said she was in a “state of bliss” and that it was a “huge step forward”. She always speaks about the importance of raw human emotion through film and theater, especially in French cinema. She has said that “film is a powerful and essential political lever”.
Octavia really enjoys acting and loves to make people laugh.
Currently she is single and says she isn’t looking. She says she is totally fine not being married or being a mom right now as her life is so busy and hectic.
She is really good friends with actress and comedian Melissa McCarthy. Spencer went to and graduated from Auburn University. She is one of six black actresses to win a Oscar. As an actress she has played the role of a nurse a whopping, 16 times. This includes her role as a nurse in movies like, Seven Pounds, City of Angels, and Chicago Hope.
