Oscar Isaac

Oscar Isaac is a Guatemalan-American film actor. Born on March 9, 1979 in Guatemala, Oscar’s mother and father immigrated to Miami when he was just five months old. He is also an occasional musician playing in bands since he was 12 years old.

Oscar Isaac Religion

Isaac’s family raised their son in an evangelical Protestant environment. However, he seems to be agnostic or atheist in his personal beliefs today.

“My dad was a man of extremes. And the way my mom was raised, she followed her husband,” Oscar once said of his childhood upbringing. “So if God spoke to my father one day and said we were not supposed to have a TV in the house, it was suddenly gone.” (1)

But his parents’ religious belief wasn’t transferring to the young Oscar. “I was more curious why I wasn’t feeling the real thing myself.”

Oscar realizes that his family’s faith isn’t one that he believes in, but he also understands that spirituality is different for many people.

“A director is always thinking, ‘What is the right combination of words that I can say that will unlock the right response in you? If I can say the right thing, it will unlock this thing in you, but if I say it wrong, the opposite with happen.’ Religion is a very similar thing. Like, somebody was meditating long enough that they put the right sentence together and thought, ‘If you say these words in exactly this way, you’ll know how to live, but you have to say it exactly like this.’ The problem is that it’s not always the same for everybody.” (1)

Oscar Isaac Politics

While he has never outright stated his personal political views, Oscar Isaac has voiced thoughts that make him appear leftist.

Oscar feels Donald Trump is “definitely irritating” because of the controversial statements Trump has made about immigrantion. “The problem is it’s less about the guy that’s saying it, and more that he’s being the mouthpiece for a large part of the population. Because that’s me, that’s my family. We’re immigrants.” (2)

When Oscar wore a t-shirt that featured the cover art to Any Rand’s Atlas Shrugged. This sparked a debate online whether Isaac was expressing a libertarian political belief. “I liked the design,” he later explained to the press. “I didn’t think wearing the shirt was saying I agreed with all her politics. I’m not a Libertarian!” (2)

Oscar Isaac Relationships

Oscar has been in a relationship with Danish film director Elvira Lind since 2013. The couple had a child, a baby boy named Eugene, in April 2017.

There has been speculation that the couple secretly married sometime in 2016. At the European premiere of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Lind was spotted wearing a gold band on her marriage finger. It also appeared that Oscar was wearing a similar ring as well. (3)
