Riz Ahmed also know as his rap persona Riz MC, is an English actor and rapper. He’s known as an actor for his role in movies like The Road to Guantanamo (2006), Four Lions (2010) and Nightcrawler (2014). He’s also had a part in Jason Bourne (2016) and will co-star in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016). He also plays the main character in the TV series The Night Of (2016). In 2011 he launched his first and so far only music album, Microscope. He’s received three awards for different acting performances and his album has been received in a generally positive light.
Ahmed was born into a British Pakistani Muslim family. Both his parents moved from Pakistan to England in the 70’s. He still identifies as a Muslim, but doesn’t bring his religious beliefs into his work. When asked about his song, Post 9/11 Blues, he says it’s not written from the point of view of a Muslim, but with the atmosphere of fear after the event.
Not surprisingly for a rapper, Riz is very interested in music, going so far as starting his own night club in Oxford when he still went there. “By the time I left, it was one of the biggest club nights, and when I started there wasn’t anything like it”.
From a young age Ahmed has been interested in changing the status quo. Back in school he noticed the junior common room only had white members. He then convinced fellow students to purposely vote only for black and Asian students, as a statement to show how the teachers would basically choose their own candidates. All in all, the actor seems to lean as a liberal and would most likely be a Democrat if he was into American politics.
There’s been no information on Riz dating anyone, indicating that of August 2016 he’s currently single.
Riz started his music career through pirate radio stations, club nights and rap battles in the UK. He won several competitions in 2005 which helped pave the way for his career and future album launch.
