Dita Von Teese is best known for being an American burlesque dancer and glamour model. She has also ventured into fashion model work, costume designing, singing, and occasionally acting. She is credited as being the leader in bringing back the art of burlesque to the mainstream.
Born on September 28, 1972 in Rochester, Michigan, Dita’s zodiac sign is Libra. Her birth name is Heather Renée Sweet.
It doesn’t appear to be the case that Dita Von Teese is religious. When she married shock rocker Marilyn Manson in 2005 the ceremony was non-denominational. (1)
Does that make Dita agnostic, an atheist, or a closeted believer? We would go for one of the first two since her ex was a card carrying member of the Church of Satan.
Unlike a celeb like Madonna, Dita doesn’t bring in topical subject matter into her performances. “No religious imagery in my shows… and I make every attempt to keep from being offensive in a political way,” she has said. (2)
The evidence supports a case that Dita is left-leaning in her politics. However, she has never commented to the press about her preference for elected officials.
Look at this Instagram post from shortly before the 2016 presidential election. Dita is very supportive of getting out to vote, but also very careful to not say which candidate or party she supports:
Publicly Dita supports many liberal causes like PETA and championing gay rights.
She also stands behind the #MeToo movement. “I’m glad that people who have genuinely been assaulted or backed into a corner are outing the men who did that to them. It’s a good conversation to have.” (3)
After dating for four years Dita married Marilyn Manson in a 2005 wedding ceremony held in Ireland. It would only last a year: Dita served the rocker divorce papers on Christmas Eve 2006 citing irreconcilable differences. Rumor has it that there was another woman involved in the mix, and at the end of their relationship that Manson didn’t even want to talk with Dita on the phone. (4)
It sounds like the two have mended a bit and are civil to each other:
Dita has younger and older sisters. She is one-quarter Armenian on her mother’s side, and also has Scottish, German and English family roots.
“I get asked about whether or not I’m a feminist all of the time and I get questioned a lot about things that I do on stage in my show and what it means. Of course, it’s incredible when I do come under fire about being anti-feminist, like when people don’t know anything about burlesque and point fingers and go, ‘Oh, she’s a stripper this is objectifying women,’ and it’s like wait; you haven’t been to the show and you probably don’t know that 80% of the audience is female and the rest is dates of the females that bought tickets, or they’re gay men and lesbians.
“It always comes down to if you don’t like it, don’t watch it! We don’t need people to come that don’t get it.” (5)
Dita first discovered her fondness for lace and lingerie when she spied the sensual ladies in her father’s Playboy magazines. At age thirteen her mother bought her Dita’s first bra and stockings, and both were not as elegant as Dita had hoped for. (6)
When she first began to model in print, Playboy asked her for her stage name. That’s when Heather Sweet thought up the name Dita, but at first it was Dita Von Treese, not Teese. Playboy‘s editor thought that her last name was spelled incorrectly and published it as “Teese”. Dita liked the new name better and so kept it.
