George Clooney is an American actor, producer and director. Coming from a showbiz family, Clooney began his acting career in television in the 1970s, and landed his first feature role in 1998 in the low budget Return of the Killer Tomatoes. It wasn’t until 1994 that Clooney broke into the big time by playing the role of Dr. Doug Ross for five seasons in E.R. Clooney’s post E.R. career saw him star in big Hollywood products like Out of Sight, the Ocean’s Eleven trilogy, and direct his own movies (Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, Good Night, and Good Luck, and The Monuments Men.) He won a best actor Oscar for his role in Syriana (2006), and for producing Argo (2012).
Born on May 6, 1961 in Lexington, Kentucky, his zodiac sign is Taurus. His middle name is Timothy.
Growing up in Kentucky with his sister, the young George was raised in the Irish Catholic faith. (1)
“Yes, we were Catholic, big time, whole family, whole group,” Clooney once explained to Larry King. ” I got in trouble a couple of times when I was young because I asked some interesting questions, you know? I thought it was an interesting idea when I was a kid, I was saying, “Well, without Judas, this whole thing doesn’t work.” So I thought well maybe Judas understood that it was his job and he actually decided he would be the — and I’ve written a piece like that. It was just experimenting, I got in a lot of trouble for that.” (2)
However, present day, Clooney isn’t so sure about having a belief in God.
“I don’t have a specific [belief] — I don’t — it’s an interesting thing. I’ll tell you what’s tricky about this. In talking about religion, if you’re well known, anything you say sort of ticks off a bunch of other people and sort of attacks their belief.
“So I always try to say that I, first and foremost, I think that whatever anybody believes, as long as it doesn’t hurt anyone else, it’s fair enough and works. And I think it’s real and matters. I don’t happen to have those beliefs as much. I don’t believe in those things.” (2)
George is a liberal and a Democrat. He supported Barack Obama in the latter’s 2008 and 2012 presidential runs, and Hillary Clinton in her failed 2016 campaign for President. (3)
On Donald Trump, Clooney has been an outspoken critic of Trump. When interviewed on the red carpet to say five words to describe President Trump, Clooney said this:
After many years of saying that he would never marry again, Clooney tied the knot to his current wife, Amal Alamuddin on September 27, 2014. Alamuddin is a human rights lawyer from a British-Lebanese background.
In June 2017 George became a father at the age of 55 when his wife gave birth to twins, a girl named Ella, and son Alexander.
Clooney was married before. In 1989 he married actress Talia Balsam. Their union lasted until 1993.
George’s parents are Nick and Nina Clooney; Nick was an anchorman and later a television host while Nina was a beauty queen and later a councilwoman.
Showbiz is in the Clooney family. Actress and singer Rosemary Clooney was George’s aunt, and she was mother to actor Miguel Ferrer.
George likes to drive motorcycles, play basketball, and engage in humanitarian efforts. He is vocal about gun control to stop school shootings, the recognition of the Armenian Genocide, stopping the conflict in Darfur, and supporting greater roles for women in industry.
